Gaya, popularly known as Gaya ji, is one of the most sacred pilgrimage destinations of India, located on the banks of the holy Phalgu River in Bihar. The city holds immense spiritual significance for Hindus as the foremost place for performing Pind Daan rituals to honor ancestors, a tradition believed to grant peace to departed souls. At the heart of Gaya stands the famous Vishnupad Temple, built around the footprint of Lord Vishnu. Gaya is also revered in Buddhism, as Lord Buddha visited and meditated here before attaining enlightenment at Bodh Gaya. Surrounded by holy hills and temples such as Mangla Gauri, Ramshila, Gurpa, Pretshila, and Surya Kund, Gaya ji is a confluence of faith, history, and culture, drawing lakhs of pilgrims every year, especially during the Pitru Paksha Mela.
